Effective Approaches for Supporting Students with Eating Disorders

Course Aim                  

This eating disorders course is suitable for staff caring for pupils ranging from approx. 8 – 18 years old.

School Nurses and Pastoral Staff will be equipped with essential knowledge, skills and strategies to effectively support pupils with eating disorders, or who are showing signs of troubled eating.

Participants will gain skills and techniques for successfully supporting vulnerable students and managing risk.  Content is suitable for School Nurses, Pastoral Staff and Senior Leaders who are responsible for the wellbeing of students within their schools.

Our expert Kate will guide participants through this topic so that they can gain more understanding and feel better equipped at how to respond in a variety of ways.  There will be plenty of space to express concerns or worries and ask specific questions.

Key objectives include:

  • Understanding and assessing current risk factors, triggers and current incidence
  • Examining best practice
  • Managing disclosure and boundaries re signposting
  • Exploring issues of confidentiality and conflicts of interest
  • Strategies for prevention and intervention within your school
  • Developing resilience-based practice
