SENCO leadership

Developing the Essential Role of The SENCO

Developing the Essential Role of the SENCO

Course Aim

Mainstream school SEND leaders continue to face significant challenges as the number of children with SEND continue to rise, funding and support is insufficient, teachers’ confidence to meet a range of needs is often low and a new national SEND system is on the horizon. The need for creative and skilled strategic leadership of SEND in mainstream schools is even more essential than ever.

This one-day course will provide colleagues with an opportunity to consider the role of the SENCO as a strategic leader.  It aims to support those leading SEND in the school to develop and implement their vision for improving outcomes for children and young people. The day will provide an opportunity for delegates to share practical approaches and good practice in planning and developing effective provision for pupils with SEND across their school.

This course is suitable for primary and secondary mainstream SENCOs or aspiring SENCOs, Inclusion Coordinators and other leaders with a strategic responsibility for SEND in their school.

Naturally we will be discussion the implications of the government’s recent White Paper. Key Learning Objectives also include:

  • The current national picture of SEND
  • Developing strategic direction and planning
  • Coordinating SEND provision
  • Prioritising the development of Inclusive High-Quality Teaching
  • Implementing the Assess, Plan, Do, Review Process
  • Leading a team and supporting colleagues
  • Evaluating the impact of provision on pupil outcomes
  • Developing the skills essential for the SENCO role
