Masculinity and Misogyny: Practical Strategies for Leading Restorative Conversations with Boys
Masculinity and Misogyny Webinar Aim
Schools continue to report increased overt misogyny towards both female staff and students. Public awareness of online influences and the ‘manosphere’ has grown, however the question is ‘how do we address it and its impacts on our boys?’
Led by experienced teacher, speaker and author Peter Radford, this masculinity and misogyny masterclass is two things in one. First, it is an essential unpicking of the factors leading to misogyny and the resultant negative and violent sexual behaviours towards women and girls. It will explore the concept of masculinity within changing cultural norms. Second, it will guide you through practical strategies for addressing the influences and messaging out there by engaging in restorative conversations and interventions with boys.
Attempting a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to misogyny and sexual harassment that is effective means addressing the issues at their root, not announcing a raft of sanctions. This training will equip you to tread a nuanced path in changing minds, behaviour and culture in your school. It will also provide you with a tool kit of strategies to pass on to your staff to equip them in educating and nurturing boys.
This training programme is also suitable for a whole staff in-house training.
We’ll explore the following areas:
- Understanding misogyny and how it is perpetuated
- What boys and men are struggling with
- ‘Manosphere’ messaging and why it is gaining traction
- How to avoid putting boys on the defensive
- How to challenge behaviour by addressing its root cause
- the power dynamics inherent in relationships interventions
- Equipping boys to manage their emotions positively
- Key coaching questions to facilitate learning and openness in boys.
This training is suitable for safeguarding staff, pastoral leads, tutors and teachers. If you haven’t yet attended, we warmly invite you to join us or share this with your colleagues. Fees are £255 + VAT per person with discounts for 2+ colleagues from one establishment.
