Course Aim
Good mental health and emotional wellbeing form the cornerstone that supports students’ development, progress and attainment.
This course enables staff to develop a carefully-considered Mental Health Policy, which ensures a whole-school approach to addressing the mental health needs of students, their parents, teaching and pastoral staff.
Key learning objectives:
- Writing key content, definitions and specific guidance for boarding and day pupils
- Providing an overview for creating guidelines to manage acute distress, self-harm, eating disorders, emerging mental health needs and the impact of social media usage
- Clearly defining staff responsibilities, risk assessment and thresholds for referral
- Incorporating content which considers the proposed Designated Mental Health Lead role
- Ensuring your policy links with your school safeguarding policy and local CAMHS practice
- Developing an electronic mental health policy document with active links to current DfE and NHS guidance
