Neurodiversity Unpacked: Foundational knowledge and key skills for supporting neurodivergent young people in school
Webinar Aim
This neurodiversity webinar has been specially designed to respond to colleagues’ requests to significantly deepen understanding of neurodiverse students in their schools, focussing on ADHD and ASC. This course is suitable for a wide range of staff including SEND staff, inclusion leads, teaching & pastoral staff and school nurses.
The session will include a clear and easy to understand working definition of high functioning autism (ASC without intellectual impairment) and ADHD along with a framework to consider often invisible executive functioning difficulties that can intensify the challenges of adolescence for young neurodivergent young people.
This workshop will also offer a period of extended Q&A and enable practitioners to bring “live” material they may wish to explore.
Key learning objectives:
- Understanding the current working definition of Autism and ADHD
- Recognising the primary (yet often invisible) functional challenges students face
- Exploring different kinds of diagnostic assessment
- Successful evidencing
- General thoughts and tips for Access Arrangements
- Specialist techniques for supporting neurodivergent students in daily school life
- Tips to help improve communication with neurodivergent students as well as school staff
