Substance Misuse: Proactive Ways to Keep Your Students Safer – How to identify triggers, manage risk, minimise harm and instigate change

Course Aim

This practical training course is presented by an experienced Substance Misuse Consultant and Trainer. The day offers Pastoral Leaders, Pastoral Staff and School Nurses a detailed understanding of current levels and emerging trends of substance misuse amongst young people, as well as an overview of the latest Chief Medical Officer guidelines. Staff attending will learn how to offer confident support and minimise harm to students in their care.

  • Spotting the triggers for substance misuse
  • Understanding the effects and risks of a range of substances
  • Identifying the link between substance misuse and mental health problems
  • Ensuring students recognise the myths surrounding the use of psychoactive substances
  • Understanding the psychoactive substances ban and what this means for students in your care
  • Effective ways of improving communication with students in order to support positive change
  • Updating your school’s drug and alcohol policies in line with new guidelines
